Payment and Insurance in Lakewood CO

Sports Medicine Lakewood CO Patient Filling Out Paperwork

Denver Sports Medicine is an out-of-network provider with all insurance companies. With out-of-network insurance, there is usually a separate deductible that must be met and collected before the insurance company will pay for services. After that, your insurance company will cover a percentage of your care and you will be responsible for the rest. Most insurance companies allow us to accept assignment, which means that after your deductible is met we only have to collect the percentage you are responsible for. Some insurance companies, like Anthem / Blue Cross Blue Shield, will not allow us to accept assignment. This means that you will have to pay the full amount for treatments and then your insurance company will reimburse you directly. We are not part of the chiropractic network that Kaiser supports. Since we are an out-of-network provider in Lakewood CO, we do not accept HMO plans. We do not accept Medicaid.

Why are we an out-of-network provider in Lakewood CO?

One of the biggest differences between out-of-network and in-network providers is that your treatment plan and appointment length is dictated by the doctor rather than the insurance company. As a result, out-of-network providers are able to spend more time with patients and consequently provide more quality and focused care. Because of the quality of care, patients may notice a faster recovery and fewer overall treatments.

Why would someone pay out of pocket for physical therapy at Denver Sports Medicine?

  1. They have not met their deductible and don’t plan to. Until they meet their deductible, people must pay 100% of what an insurance-based clinic charges. People with high deductible plans or high co-pays are starting to seek out more affordable care options. Due to declining reimbursement from insurance companies (several years ago Medicare cut 32% in one year), insurance-based hospitals and clinics needed to inflate charges. Because we aren’t subject to insurance company reimbursement practices, Denver Sports Med can charge what we feel is appropriate and affordable based on the high level of training, providing the highest quality, hands-on care.
  2. Patients come to us after they continued to have pain or dysfunction after other treatments. Whether it be physical therapy, chiropractic, massage, or alternative therapies, our comprehensive treatment philosophy has the potential to create improvement in symptoms where other therapies have failed. The focus on manual therapy, 1:1 treatment sessions with the same PT and/or chiropractor and total body approach can produce fast results.
  3. Patients come to us because they want the most comprehensive, cutting-edge treatment for their injury or problem. Getting back on the court, field, or just to life in general is important. We help people get there by addressing the root cause of problems.

What forms of payment can I use?

Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and other tax advantaged dollars or savings accounts are a great way to pay for out of pocket health expenses such as cash-pay physical therapy, chiropractic and massage. You can also use cash, check or credit card (via Square reader) for payment. We do ask for payment upfront for each visit.

To determine if your insurance company will reimburse you for a portion of your treatment, please call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask for out of network benefits.

Self-Pay and Health Savings Account Option

It is important that we make our services affordable. It is also important that our doctors and therapists have specialized training and therefore, we have many services available for an additional charge for those patients interested in accelerating healing in a shorter period of time.
