Sports Massage

Sports massage therapy is a benefit to athletes in any sport, any age and any level of proficiency from weekend warriors to world-class professionals. Massage Therapy is a proven practice to prevent resulting damage from the repetitive and aggressive movements any sport can cause. Sports massage therapy can be used as a means to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event.

Athletes have discovered that specially designed sports massage promotes flexibility, reduces fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries and prepares their body and mind for optimal performance. At Denver Sports Medicine, we apply specific massage techniques to individual patients. Our massage solutions are designed to benefit the athlete in his/her specific sport of choice focusing on areas of the body that are over-stressed and over-used in the specific sport.

A balanced training regimen is necessary to prevent injury as much as it can be beneficial after an injury. Our goal here is to prevent injury, of course. To that end, our treatment plans include pre-event massage treatment and post-event massage follow up. One of the key benefits of Sports Massage therapy vs. other modalities is its ability to target muscle-tendon junctions. A 2010 study in the journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that even a 30-second massage improved hip-flexor range of motion. Other respected studies have demonstrated decreased muscle soreness in athletes who receive massage before and/or after the exercise.

Sports Massage therapy is recommended every week or two during the season. Consult with our team to devise the treatment that best meets your schedule, level of activity and budget.
